Section 45ZA(Nomination for Deposit Accounts)
Section 45ZA of the Banking Regulation Act, 1949, allows bank depositors to nominate a person to receive the deposit money in the event of their death. The nomination, made in a prescribed manner, gives the nominee the right to receive the deposit amount, which is subject to recent amendments that may include allowing multiple nominees and require banks to process nominations within three working days. The nominee is a facilitator for the bank to pay the funds but does not become the owner of the money; the money is still part of the deceased's estate.
