The bank was founded to serve women who had little access to institutional credit. Its founders believed that small, timely and dignified financial assistance would allow a woman to supplement her family income, meet an emergency without distress borrowing and, in time, stand on her own feet.
That purpose still shapes the bank’s deposit and loan schemes today.
